Approach
Olivia believes the root of our ‘humanness’ is in what we share: connection together, vulnerabilities, even moments of desperation and defensiveness. She believes that real change can only occur when people feel truly seen. In this way, Olivia enjoys listening closely to make sure that you feel accurately understood. Olivia works with her clients together to develop a therapy that encourages them to grow in their insights in meaningful ways. She enjoys meeting you where you’re at, whether that’s super motivated with a clear direction, or open to exploring the wilderness within for a while until we get our footing together.
Experience and Interests
Olivia has a comfortable, creative and open minded presence. She particularly enjoys working with people who have been to therapy before but felt there was more work to do or are lost as to where to start. Olivia has a particular interest in relationships, stories, and the meaning we apply to our lives, which can help make sense of big life transitions and interpersonal conflict, low-self esteem, and earlier childhood experiences. Olivia works with clients experiencing anxiety, stress, depression and grief. She is interested in people because of their diversity, and aims to understand the whole person including their values, cultural influences, family and religious background, and sexual orientation. Olivia has worked across both the public and private spheres and she has particular experience in the disability and family violence sectors.
Therapies
In her work, Olivia employs aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy and positive psychology to work with cycles of anxiety and depression, relationship issues, life transitions and adjustments, work stress and parenting support.
