Bianca is a warm, non-judgmental, and emotion-focused psychologist, who thrives on working collaboratively with clients to help them prosper individually and within their relationships.

Approach

Bianca believes in working with clients from a place of genuineness and compassion, and seeks to establish a therapeutic relationship in which clients feel completely safe to both explore and challenge what they need to in order to work towards their therapy goals. Bianca believes in working with individuals in context. Her approach is to build an initial understanding of the “whole picture” of a person to inform her assessment and treatment planning for her clients. This includes building an understanding of a client’s history, relationships, beliefs, and core values, and using this understanding to work with clients to set treatment goals that are aligned with their needs.

Experience and Interests

Having completed her doctoral training in Clinical and Forensic psychology, Bianca has worked with individuals, couples, and families both within the Forensic setting (within the court and prison systems) and within Clinical settings (in hospital and clinic-based settings). She is particularly interested in the area of emotional intelligence, and considers this a very influential factor in terms of her work with people in areas such as relationship difficulties, anger management difficulties, and anxiety and mood difficulties.

Bianca has a keen interest in and passion for supporting individuals and families presenting with a wide range of challenges and goals through from pre-conception and infertility, into pregnancy (including all forms pregnancy loss, and pregnancy after loss), childbirth, and early parenthood. Bianca’s doctoral research focused on trialing different ways to best support parents around understanding and supporting their children through challenging behaviours and emotional difficulties. She is very experienced in working with parents, and sees her role here as both being focused on enhancing the wellbeing of parents as well as their babies and/or children simultaneously. She is a trained Tuning in to Kids facilitator, and has also completed further training in the area of Perinatal and Infant Mental Health and Gottman Couples Therapy.

Finally, Bianca is both interested and experienced in the area of body image difficulties and disordered eating. She works with older adolescents and adults of all ages in this space.

Therapies

Bianca is particularly drawn to evidence-based therapies which promote an exploration of and acceptance of emotions, and which also encourage clients to gently examine and challenge any beliefs which may be holding them back from living a fulfilled life. Bianca enjoys using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Bianca also uses Mindfulness-Based Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ERP) and enhanced CBT for Eating Disorders when needed. Bianca chooses her mode of therapy depending on her client’s needs and preferences.
