Approach

Barb’s primary goal is to form and maintain warm and trusting relationships with her clients, facilitating them to identify and use their strengths to find the best approaches through which they can successfully achieve their goals.

Experiences and Interests

Barb has over 35 years of international experience in Coaching & Counselling Psychology, Organisational Psychology and Business Advisory Services. Originally from Northern Ireland, she has worked in the UK, Asia, the US and has been based in Australia for the last two decades. Barb has experience in community, private, organisational/corporate and forensic settings. She has developed a strong interest and skill in supporting her clients to develop the resources to effectively deal with personal distress from issues related, in particular, to anxiety and depression and major life transitions. She has worked with clients right across the age spectrum with a keen interest in supporting clients in the later stages of their careers and lives.

Therapies

Barb draws on a range of therapies, informed by what will be most effective for her clients, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness.

Barb Personally

Barb is part of the International Advisory Group for PAfID [People’s Action for Inclusive Development], a not-for-profit organisation with a base in Cambodia, working on disability and development, aiming for an inclusive society where no one is left behind. She is also a keen stand-up paddle boarder – in calm waters – and has recently discovered the joys of cold water swimming. Ask her about her two Schnauzers and be prepared for a long conversation!
